The shadow of the West Mitten Butte is cast on the East Mitten Butte at sunset twice a year in March and September. Our day had it all; rain, snow, wind and lots of cloud cover. We sat waiting to see if the sun would break through the clouds and we were fortunate to see the shadow for what seemed like 10 seconds before the clouds obscured the shadow again.
